The loss of a parent is a devastating one. It matters not whether the parent is lost to death or desertion. The feelings of abandonment and neglect can plague a child's life throughout his existence, affect his self-worth, stifle his self-expression and lower his esteem. Lack of love, basic necessities and comfort characterize the life of orphans. Much more so in the rural areas, made worse by the prevalent poverty in such communities. Previously in Africa, there were no such things as orphans, as orphaned children were immediately adopted into the families of the parent’s closest relative, where they were nurtured. Today it is not so, as many orphans suffer from neglect and face the undisguised rejection and disgust imbued on them by their relatives, leading them to live on the streets, usually becoming miscreants and engaging in social vices..
At Benjamin Kalu Foundation our mission is simple. We stand for orphaned children and help them thrive in real time. We have created a measurable, repeatable and systematic method to ensure that orphans are educated, fed, loved and safe. BKF has embarked on projects for the building of threw strategic orphanages to provide food, clothing, shelter, education and comfort to children in need. With the first being located in the founder’s hometown, Bende town.
This is to ensure every child lives in a loving environment to become healthy, happy, income generating adults and experience a true sense of belonging. We give orphaned children a voice and raise awareness for the community's orphans.
